Carrabelle: The Quiet Fishing Village That Already Feels Like Home
A while back, my husband and I made a quick RV stop in Carrabelle while winding our way along the Forgotten Coast. We only had one night, but it was enough to know we’ll be back — and next time we’re staying longer.
Tucked between the Crooked River and the Gulf, Carrabelle still feels like a real working fishing village in the best possible way. Shrimp boats line the harbor, the downtown is filled with colorful historic buildings, and the pace is slow and unhurried. It’s the kind of place where locals wave from their porches and the biggest decision of the day is whether to watch the sunset from the beach or the pier.
We parked our RV at one of the waterfront campgrounds and woke up to the sound of gulls and the smell of salt air. During the day we walked the soft white sand at Carrabelle Beach (just minutes from most RV parks), wandered out to the iconic Crooked River Lighthouse, and grabbed fresh seafood at one of the local spots overlooking the water. It was simple, peaceful, and exactly the kind of low-key coastal day we love.
What surprised us most was how easy and welcoming it felt for RVers. With full-hookup parks like Carrabelle Beach RV Resort and Ho Hum RV Park right on the water, plus easy access to St. George Island State Park just a short drive away, it’s the perfect base for exploring the whole Forgotten Coast without the crowds.
We left after that one quick night already talking about when we could come back — maybe for a longer stay with the RV, some fishing charters, and more time to explore Tate’s Hell State Forest and the backroads. Carrabelle has that rare, authentic charm that makes you want to linger.

We’ll definitely be back soon. And if you go before we do, say hi to the town for us.
