Camping at Bald Point State Park

(Alligator Point)

We haven’t been to Bald Point State Park yet, but it’s already at the very top of our list for our next camping trip on the Forgotten Coast.

Tucked at the tip of Alligator Point where Ochlockonee Bay meets Apalachee Bay, this 12,000-acre park feels wonderfully wild and untouched. With its mix of coastal marshes, pine flatwoods, oak thickets, and long stretches of uncrowded beach, it promises exactly the kind of quiet, natural escape we love.

We’ve been reading about the wide, pristine beaches perfect for swimming, beachcombing, fishing, kayaking, and even windsurfing. The hiking and biking trails wind through maritime hammocks and along birding boardwalks, and the views across the marsh and bay are supposed to be some of the most peaceful on the entire coast. We’re especially excited about the legendary fall hawk migration and the chance to see all kinds of shorebirds and wildlife.

Camping here is delightfully simple and primitive — there’s one paddle-in / boat-in campsite on Chaires Creek that you reach by kayak or small boat. No fancy amenities, just a tent, the sound of the water, and that true slow-down feeling that makes the Forgotten Coast so special.

We’re already talking about packing the kayaks, setting up a simple camp, and spending a couple of nights where the only sounds are waves, birds, and the occasional boat in the distance. It feels like the perfect place to get away from everything and just be.

If you’re looking for a real escape where you can actually hear the water and feel completely surrounded by nature, Bald Point State Park looks like it might be one of the best-kept secrets on the Forgotten Coast.
