This week's Good news...

1. Strong Community Turnout at Local Library Programs (Eastpoint & Carrabelle)

The Franklin County Public Libraries (Eastpoint and Carrabelle branches) are having a very active spring with well-attended craft events, book clubs, and summer reading kickoff activities. These programs continue to be a bright spot for families and locals. Recent example: The “Creation Station” and “Adult Crafternoon” events have been popular and well-reviewed.

2. Slight Improvement in Franklin County Unemployment (covers both Eastpoint & Carrabelle)

In February 2026, the unemployment rate in Franklin County (which includes Eastpoint and Carrabelle) dropped slightly as the local workforce grew. This is a small but positive economic indicator for the area.

3. Ongoing Positive Conservation Work on St. George Island (affects Eastpoint area strongly)

The partnership between ANERR, FWC, and Florida Audubon on invasive plant removal and shorebird habitat restoration on the St. George Island Causeway continues successfully. This is the third year of the project, and this year’s more intensive approach (herbicide + prescribed burn) is generating optimism for the upcoming nesting season.
