Here are a few bright spots making us smile this week on the Forgotten Coast:

✨💥 Patriotic Spirit Lights Up the Forgotten Coast: Get ready for a big Independence Day weekend! Apalachicola’s annual Waterfront July 3rd Celebration kicks off Friday at Riverfront Park with live music, food vendors, family activities, the Red, White & Blue Parade, and a spectacular fireworks display over the river. Other communities are joining in with parades, fireworks, and festivities from July 1–4.

🐶 Abandoned Puppies Seeking Loving Homes Several puppies were recently found abandoned in Franklin County and are now looking for forever families. A great reminder of the importance of local animal rescue efforts and community compassion.

📚 Library Volunteer Opportunities Available The Franklin County Public Libraries are actively seeking volunteers at the Eastpoint and Carrabelle branches for tasks like shelving and book processing. Teens are especially encouraged to join the Teen Advisory Board — perfect for gaining experience and giving back to the community.

🎉 Retirement Celebration for Chief Bobby Varnes and Greg Harris The City of Apalachicola hosted a special retirement celebration honoring Chief Bobby Varnes and Greg Harris for their dedicated service. A well-deserved sendoff for two community leaders who have made a lasting impact.
