Did You Know?
1. Carrabelle is home to the World’s Smallest Police Station — a tiny 2-by-3-foot phone booth that served as the official police station starting in 1963. It was created to stop tourists from making unauthorized long-distance calls on the city’s police phone.
2. Port St. Joe (formerly the town of St. Joseph) was the site of Florida’s first Constitutional Convention in 1838. Delegates from across the territory met there and drafted the state’s original constitution, which later helped pave the way for Florida’s statehood in 1845.
3. Carrabelle is also home to the Crooked River Lighthouse, a historic 103-foot iron skeletal lighthouse built in 1895. It is one of the few remaining iron lighthouses still standing on Florida’s Gulf Coast and now serves as a museum and landmark.
